I resonate so much with this post. I have been writing my drafts for a couple of years now and keep running in circles.
While I agree with your post to write and aim for the word count, sometimes under the pressure, I tend to write to meet the count, and that does not justify/help my plot or writing in any way. It's a vicious cycle!
If it were me coming to you, let's pretend I'm like, "Keira, I have this issue where I aim for the word count but it's not flowing that day and as a result, my writing is subpar. Afterwards, I feel bad about my writing, about my goals, and it discourages me."
If I had that problem and I came to you, what would you suggest?
Hmm... I would suggest to keep going on, and while there are so many words flowing, something might just click eventually? Perhaps, a plot or an ARC development might occur that you weren't even considering?
